Extreme Seapoint Promenading - A Tribute to the Ladies of Team Crazy
Tomorrow, Aileen leaves us for a year to study abroad, so Team Crazy had to go for a run as her parting shot. All the boys were busy with their own (extreme) activities so it was just the Ladies of Team Crazy who made it out. Seeing as we wanted to be able to chat and have a relaxed run, we chose the Seapoint Promenade. It also meant we could watch the waves and get an idea of what the Mad Belgian was playing in.
Kids again
We figured it would be a bit chilly, slightly windy and possibly even get a bit damp. We didn't quite figure we'd be running into near gale-force winds. Not to mention the cappuccino/milkshake foam that was being tossed about that we had to wade through.
There were many people out on the Promenade. All wrapped up and snug, watching the waves, taking photographs, bracing against the wind and avoiding the foam as much as they could. What they didn't expect was to see three young ladies taking a leisurely jog through it all, laughing, smiling and having a rather jolly time!!
The looks on their faces were rather amusing. A bit of shock, disbelief and amazement. I think this weekend the 3 of us will star in many home videos, and be the topic of tonight's dinner: "Can you imagine? They were running in that weather!? They must be MAD!"
Well, we're Crazy, not mad. That's the Belgian's job. When we got back to where we started, Lizzie and I chose a deserted bench to stretch on. I guess it was deserted as it was right in the middle of a huge patch of foam. We were wet and covered in it already anyway, so it didn't bother us. Aileen went off to fetch her camera and as she returned she saw a photographer running towards us. Quite literally as Lizzie and I first noticed him he was already snapping shots of us and at the same time another wave of foam engulfed us. So if we're in the Cape Times tomorrow, we weren't posing. It's real, baby!
Fascination on our side, too
Invigorated, dirty and wet we made our way back to Aileen's place for lunch. Lizzie and I then washed her car which was also covered in the foam. A bit of Extreme Car Washing ensued as it began to rain and hail in the process. Aileen's neighbours really must wonder...
What a way to have a 'last run' with the Team Crazy Ladies. I've often found it hard to make new female friends. In Aileen I have found a fabulous friend, with very similar tastes in clothes, movies and men. So it is sad to see her leaving. But she'll be back, with mad tales of high adventures. I wish her all the best and safe travels.
Lizzie is also leaving us, but that's only a few months away, so we've got some time left for fun and games... On my way home I turned on the radio and they were playing "That's What Friends Are For". A fitting end to a fabulous day out. Thanks girls :)
