Silly, stupid weekend coming up!
I've got myself signed up for two silly events this weekend. And I'm not quite sure how I'll fare. They're both very serious events and for good benefit too. I'm hoping my benefit will be a good weekend of training!
Saturday: The AMArider 100miler
160km offroad, 2200m ascent, non technical. Fundraiser for AMArider who build and maintain mtbiking routes across the Cape.
That's all fine, I can do that, although it may take me all of the 11hours they allow.
What worries me is the fact I'm riding with 3 of my Club100 team mates. I know that two of them have been training quite hard recently, and the third is one of those people who seems to never train, but still comes and kicks butt on the day.
It will be painful.
And long.
I may lose my sense of humour.
I will lose feeling in my toes...
At least the weather won't be as bad as last year's event!
Sunday: The BEN Red Hill Challenge
29km loop, minimum 4 loops = 116km. Fundraiser for the BEN foundation. Every R2200 raised puts another person on a bicycle, with training in bike maintenance and potential to do more.
It's organised by the same guys who did the Platteklip Charity Challenge. So each lap you do, you raise money that your friends and colleagues have sponsored you.
This is all fine, and the distance is not so great - especially seeing we're on road bikes this time. Problem is that I'd have (hopefully) covered 160km the day before. And the whole reason that this worries me more than last year, is that I've been so busy with other life necessities recently (ie work!) that I've not been able to train. My coach tells me that trail running won't cut it.
Oops.
