That wasn't so bad!

After all my stressing about last weekend's activities, I came away from it in a relatively good condition, having completed all 280km I had signed up for!

The 100Miler was much better than last year. It's amazing how the weather really can play havoc. As it was, we had quite warm weather which played havoc with one of my teams mates, who we had to push for 10kms to get her to the last water point, and sadly had to leave her there. With only 20kms to go.

My team was fantastic, chatting all the way there, keeping a decent pace and each of us looking out for each other. After 8hr55 we crossed the line feeling pretty good.

Then on Sunday I lined up for the BEN Red Hill Challenge, for which I had signed up for 4 laps. Thinking that I'd be completely dead, I figured if I did one lap I'd do myself proud. The only race of the day is for the top 3 men and woman to the top of Red Hill, and somehow I found enough fighting spirit - on cold, tired legs - to get second place - whoop whoop!

All was well until the wind slapped us in the face on the return from Smits back to Simonstown. That was unpleasant. Lap 1, 2, 3 all down, last to go, with pains in my knees (serves me right for not training!) and my rear end starting to take saddle strain.I had drawn on my ability for endurance, experience and muscle memory to get me through the total of 280km, almost 3900m ascent and 14,5hrs in the saddle - with very little training.

Having a big think about it all while I was unwinding in a Deep Heat bath (gotta love those!) - who would ever have thought, if you knew me 5years ago, that I could ever say I had "relied on experience" to get me through those distances. You would have laughed, as would I.

It's amazing how one's life can change if you want it to :)
